What excites Dr. Quintanilla most about Texas Wesleyan are the great students, faculty, and administration, and “the friendly environment created by the people that come here.  It reminds me a lot of how I grew up in Waco, Texas.”

“We have the potential to be a top tier institution and I believe we will realize that potential.”

Being a father has shaped his approach to students. “My philosophy is every student that attends our University deserves the same respect and empathy that I would want someone to have for my own child.”

Before Dr. Quintanilla joined the Texas Wesleyan faculty in 1995, he was a self-employed CPA. “Many of the job responsibilities I currently have are parallel to those I had as a consultant and as a business owner.”

He began as a Professor of Accounting, moved to Interim Dean in 2006, and Dean in 2007. Dr. Quintanilla also teaches “Using Activity Based Management for Improvement” in the Doctorate of Nurse Anesthesia Practice program.

“As Dean, I have the opportunity to work with more stakeholders of the University.  I also get to utilize some of my strengths such as planning, organization, networking, and negotiating.  I enjoy representing the collective voice of the faculty and students to our colleagues across our campus.”

Part of his role as Dean involves contacting external parties about University affairs. “This includes working with accrediting agencies, employers, potential students, prospective donors, and peers at other institutions.  I am specifically working with our faculty to achieve AACSB International accreditation, my own research, and devising strategies with faculty and stakeholders on how to make Texas Wesleyan University’s School of Business more widely known in the region.”

He’s on the board of the Texas Society of CPAs and the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History and works with the School of Business Honor Society, Delta Mu Delta.

Dr. Quintanilla doesn’t mix words. “Having been a tax consultant for more than 20 years, I like to make sure people understand both good and bad news with clarity.”
