Nurse Anesthesia Program Celebrates First Doctorate Student Class

At the end of Summer II, 2011, the Doctorate of Nurse Anesthesia Practice Program graduated its 1st class. Initialed in 2008, the class of 16 graduates completed all the requirements for the DNAP degree. The 100% online Texas Wesleyan DNAP program serves students throughout mainland United States, Hawaii, Alaska as well as military CNRA’s stationed in Europe and the Middle East. Over the past few years, Paul N. Austin, PhD, CRNA, has been collaborating with scientists from Crew Health Research, Wyle Integrated Science and Engineering Group in Houston. Wyle works with NASA, including supporting the International Space Station. Their group published the following article reporting their work in the journal Aviation, Space and Environmental Medicine. Dr. Austin is an associate professor with the Graduate Programs of Nurse Anesthesia, Doctorate of Nurse Anesthesia Practice Program. Hurst VW, Whittam SW, Austin PN, Branson RD. Beck G. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation during spaceflight: examining the role of timing devices. Mr. Randall W. Klotz, a Doctorate of Nurse Anesthesia Practice student, published the following article examining the effect on syringe size on the delivered propofol dose when using a common infusion device. The findings have important implications for all anesthesia providers. Klotz RW.
