Master of Health Science


The Master of Health Science program is designed for of baccalaureate-prepared, practicing nurse anesthetists to achieve a master’s degree in the field of anesthesia. CRNAs complete Phase I of the nurse anesthesia program, but are not required to participate in the clinical residency. Baccalaureate-prepared CRNAs can complete the program in a one-to-five-year period, either on campus or via distance education.

Admission

The applicant must be a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist who holds current Certification/Re-certification recognition from the National Board on Certification and Recertification of Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA).

Application Criteria

Applicants meeting the following criteria will be evaluated for admission to the program:

  1. A baccalaureate degree from a fully accredited college or university
  2. Official transcripts from ALL colleges and universities
  3. To be considered for acceptance, an applicant must meet two of the following criteria:
    1. A overall GPA of 3.0 or greater (all college/university coursework)
    2. A GPA of 3.0 or greater for the last 60 hours of university/college coursework
    3. A GPA of 3.0 or greater for all science coursework
      (a minimum science GPA of 2.5 is required for consideration regardless of the other GPAs or GRE scores)
  4. Licensure as a registered professional nurse (R.N.) in one of the fifty states; License must be unrestricted, free from probation, suspension, or stipulations.
Admission Requirements
  1. Submit all required documentation, fees and other materials stated below.
  2. Possess a baccalaureate degree from a fully accredited college or university.
  3. Possess a current Certification/Recertification card from the NBCRNA
  4. Possess a current RN license that is valid within one of the fifty states or U.S. territories (license must be unrestricted, free from probation, suspension, or stipulations).
Required Documentation/Fees/Materials
  1. Texas Wesleyan University Graduate Programs of Nurse Anesthesia application for admission with a $50 non-refundable application fee payable to Texas Wesleyan University.
  2. Official transcripts from ALL colleges and universities attended.
  3. Verification of current RN licensure that is valid within one of the fifty states or U.S. territories (license must be unrestricted, free from probation, suspension, or stipulations).
  4. References: Two references are required – one from a surgeon or a supervising anesthesia provider and a personal reference or peer.
  5. A copy of current NBCRNA certification/recertification card.
