A Message from the Dean
Dr. Marcel Satsky Kerr, Dean & Professor of Psychology, email@example.com
This summer we completed preparations for the Climate Science Colloquium, which we will host next summer. Sponsored and funded by the DFW regional section of the American Chemical Society, the Climate Science Colloquium will bring 200 community college science faculty from Dallas and Tarrant Counties to campus for professional development and hands-on experience using the ACS Climate Science Toolkit and online Energy/Environment Simulations.
We also hosted the TexPrep Pre-freshmen Engineering Program again this year and served more than 75 middle- and high-school students who are preparing for careers in mathematics, science, technology and engineering. Likewise, our Upward Bound Math and Science Programs hosted 100 area high school students and provided them instruction, tutoring, counseling and financial information to help them prepare for college.
Exciting Developments Ahead
As summer draws to a close, we anticipate great opportunities in 2013-14. We will host a School of Natural & Social Sciences Alumni reception in September to invite our graduates back to campus to visit faculty and their peers, learn more about our programs and new initiatives and reconnect with their alma mater.
We also anticipate that Fall will bring full approval of our 3+2 joint program between Biology and the University of North Texas Health Science Center. The 3+2 program allows students to complete their senior year on UNTHSC’s campus as the first year of a coursework for a master’s degree in Biotechnology, Clinical Research Management or Forensic Genetics. The joint program is planned to commence in June 2014.
Finally, as a member of the 2014 Leadership Fort Worth Class, I look forward to getting to know our area leaders so that I may develop ways to strengthen our relations in the greater Fort Worth area. For example, I’ll be on the look-out for internship, job placement and service-learning opportunities for our students and research collaborations and community partnerships for our faculty. It’s going to be an exciting year.
