Our Virtual Genius: Dr. Mary Anne Clark
If you think Dr. Mary Anne Clark is interesting on campus, try visiting her avatar, Max Chatnoir, at the Greenhouse of Genome Island in Second Life.
Chatnoir teaches the general education course "Cats, Chromosomes and Codons: Genetics" to Second Life students. The online course allows students to conduct virtual experiments to collect and analyze data that illuminate the principles of genetics and allow students to apply them to human traits and behavior.
Dr. Clark received the 2012 Board of Trustees Faculty Scholarship Award for her work on Genome Island, which was published this year as a book chapter in Engaging the Avatar: New Frontiers in Immersive Education, by Information Age Publishing.
