BiographyI worked in the field of aviation for 20-plus years and wanted to do something different and finish my degree. I graduated in May 2011 from Texas Wesleyan and got the opportunity to work here. My background is not in higher education, but by chance I ended up working where I went to school.
My experience here as a student was really awesome and as an employee, it is just as satisfying of an experience. It is even more satisfying because I’m involved in making sure prospective students get the real story about what it is like to go to school here.
Why Come to Wesleyan?
I like to stress to students that Texas Wesleyan has a higher quality education than other schools. We have a large number of professors with Ph.D.s and a small number of adjunct professors. It is a deep education. At the Bachelor’s level, you can be involved in a lot of activities and research that you wouldn’t do until you were at the Master’s level at other schools.
Because classes are small, Texas Wesleyan has more of a family environment than an industrial institution environment. It’s not like a school that is so large you have to ride buses to get to classes. Everything is close here, including the people. We attract a lot of new students because of word of mouth. Our students are telling others what they really like.
What Makes Wesleyan Special to You?
This is my school, not just where I work, but where I was a student. I believe in the university, that it is the best education you can get in this area. I want students to experience the same quality education and experience that I did.
Favorite Place on Campus
As a student here, my favorite place was the third floor of the West Library. It’s quiet, and you can think, study, and relax. As an admissions counselor, my office is where I get the most done and get to meet with students. I work with a great group of people, so we have fun together—that makes my office my favorite place. It is really a beautiful campus; any place you find yourself could be the best place.
Favorite Things to Do
I like to travel, cook, read, and spend time with my family. I’m a sports fan and amateur musician (drums and guitar) and do some painting.
Favorite Movie or Book
Sling Blade movie, David McCullough’s John Adams biography and the HBO series based on it.
