FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (10-10) suffered a pair of losses at the hands of the Ottawa University Lady Braves (11-6). The Lady Rams lost game one 5-2 and game two 5-2.
In game one, the Lady Rams got on the board first when Shawna Henderson crossed the plate off of a fielder’s choice play.
The Lady Braves answered back in the top of the second when Samantha Skinner’s double drove in Emily Fuerst to tie the game at one a piece.
Tara Martinez got the Lady Rams back on top in the bottom of the third with an RBI single up the middle that scored Haley Butler from second base.
The Lady Braves took back control of the lead in the sixth inning with an RBI double by Josie Hildebrand. Myah Sprew provided an insurance RBI single to center field to give the Lady Braves a 4-2 lead. Samantha Skinner gave Ottawa another run with a sacrifice fly to right field that brought the score to a three run 5-2 lead.
The Lady Rams couldn’t rally for the win and took a 5-2 loss in game one.
Tara Martinez went 2-for-2 with one RBI in the contest. Haley Butler went 2-4 with one run scored in the loss.
Ashley Tarrant suffered the loss for the Lady Rams. She went five innings, gave up four runs (three earned) on five hits with two walks and five strikeouts.
In game two the Lady Braves picked up an early lead in the first inning with an RBI single from Hildebrand and a sacrifice fly from Sprew to give Ottawa a two run advantage.
The Lady Braves rallied again in the third with two RBI singles from Hildebrand and Sprew to give the Lady Braves a four run lead.
Wesleyan got one back in the bottom of the third with an RBI single from Henderson that scored Lauren Garza.
The Lady Rams chipped at the lead again in the sixth inning. Lateah Lucero led the inning off with a double into left center. Christina Kelley followed suit with an RBI double into right field and Wesleyan trailed 4-2 going into the seventh inning.
The Lady Rams couldn’t find a way to make up the deficit and lost game two 5-2.
Henderson and Kelley both went 1-for-3 with one RBI in game two. Ashley Oldham took the loss for the Rams. She threw three innings, giving up four runs (two earned) on four hits with one walk and one strikeout.
The Lady Rams will resume conference play as they take on Bacone College on Saturday in Muskogee at high noon. |
