RAMS TAKE TWO FROM TIGERS
March 29, 2009

Box Score - Game One

Box Score - Game Two

FORT WORTH, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (24-11, 3-2 RRAC) swept a doubleheader with Paul Quinn College (5-29, 0-5) at LaGrave Field on Sunday.  The Rams scored in every inning of game one on their way to a 10-0 win and exploded for seven runs in their last two at bats to take a 9-8 win in game two.

Nick Schrock got the Rams started on the right foot when he ripped a leadoff home run in the bottom of the first.  Blake Walker followed with a single and promptly stole second and third.  Travis Spencer plated Walker with a base-hit and the Rams were off to a 2-0 lead.

A solo homer from Walker made it 3-0 in the second inning.  Spencer doubled and scored on a base-hit from Kyle Harmon in the third.

The Rams batted around in the fourth, scoring three runs on three hits.  An unearned tally in the fifth brought the score to 8-0.  The Rams ended the game in the sixth, scoring on a Paul Quinn error and an RBI single from Leighton Rush.

Joey Evans (5-2) picked up the win after allowing just two hits and striking out three in four innings pitched.

Spencer led the Rams at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a double and two RBI.  Schrock and Walker each added a pair of hits to their 12-hit attack.

In game two, Paul Quinn struck first with an RBI single from Dwayne Sanders in the second inning.  Justin Keller tied things up with a solo shot to left-center in the bottom of the frame.

The Tigers loaded the bases with no outs after a single from Adam Chatman and a pair of hit batters in the fourth.  All three base runners would come around to score, giving Paul Quinn a 4-1 lead.

The Rams got a run back with an RBI double from Mikey Horn in the fifth; however, the Tigers got a two-run homer from Jason Curry after a Texas Wesleyan error extended the sixth inning.

With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Walker sparked a five-run rally with a pinch-hit double.  After a Paul Quinn error kept the drive alive, Horn, Eric Alvarez, and Rush recorded consecutive singles and Justin Keller delivered the big blow, a two-run triple that gave Texas Wesleyan the lead at 7-6.

Texas Wesleyan got some insurance in the eighth with a solo homer from Butch Ballez and a sac fly from Ryan Jacobi.

The Tigers got the tying run to the plate in the ninth, moving runners to second and third with two down.  A Texas Wesleyan error allowed both runners to score and Scott Montes added an infield single.  However Matt Chutchian alertly threw to second to catch the runner rounding the bag and record the final out.

Kody Thiebaud (6-0) picked up the win with two innings of relief.  He allowed one unearned run on two hits.  Chutchian locked down his fifth save by recording the final three outs.

The Rams and Tigers will complete their three-game series on Monday.  That game is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. start at Paul Quinn.
