RAMS ESCAPE CRUSADERS

FORT WORTH, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University men’s basketball team (8-1), ranked 2nd in the Victory Sports Network NAIA Poll, took a 68-60 win over Dallas Christian College in the Sid Richardson Center on Tuesday.

The Crusaders pushed a sluggish Texas Wesleyan team in the first half.  DCC led 33-31 with just over a minute remaining in the period before Dane Dmitrovic closed the half with four straight points.

An 8-1 run early in the second half gave the Rams an eleven point margin at 47-36.  The Crusaders scored the next seven points to close the gap to four points, but Dmitrovic answered with a layup and a reverse dunk to regain control of the contest.  Texas Wesleyan pulled away late, and led by as many as 16 at 65-49.  DCC’s Brandon Espinosa banked in a long three at the buzzer for the 68-60 final score.

Chris Berry led the Rams with 23 points.  Dmitrovic came up with a big game off the bench, scoring 19 points and grabbing 12 boards.  Hector Mukweyi just missed a double-double with nine points and 11 rebounds.  Ryan Barnes also contributed 10 rebounds.

The Crusaders were led by Christian Lawyer’s 13 points.  Espinosa finished with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Texas Wesleyan will play their final contest before the break on Thursday.  They will host Hillsdale Free Will Baptist College in the Sid Richardson Center at 7:30 p.m.
