WESLEYAN HUGHES ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM ANNOUNCED

FORT WORTH, TX:  The All-Tournament team for last weekend’s Wesleyan Hughes Volleyball Classic has been announced.  The awards were given based on the voting of each head coach.

Two members of the host squad were among those honored.  Destiny Clemons led the Lady Rams with 51 kills (3.19/g) while hitting .263 on the weekend.  The senior middle blocker also posted 16 blocks (1.00/g).  Kristen Venhuizen pitched in 35 kills (2.19/g) and 44 digs (2.75/g).

Veronica Barrientos of College of the Ozarks led the tournament with 56 kills (3.73/g), a .313 hitting percentage, and 22 blocks (1.47/g).  She was joined by her teammate Jennifer Nichols who posted 55 kills (2.50/g) and 52 digs (3.47/g).  Oklahoma Baptist University’s Tarah Dryden led the tournament with nine service aces to go with 37 kills (2.54/g) and 10 blocks (0.77/g).  Her teammate Tammy Liepelt was also selected with 51 kills (3.64/g) and 41 digs (2.93/g).

University of Mary Hardin-Baylor’s Erin Maenius led the field with 73 digs (5.21/g) while her teammate Christina Miller  posted 37 kills (2.64/g).

John Brown University placed three players on the All-Tournament team: Erin Didier (44 kills (3/13/g) and 45 digs (3.21/g)), Christi Newton (31 kills (2.21/g) and 10 blocks (0.71/g)), and Amber Williams (35 kills (2.50/g) and 12 blocks (0.86/g).  Belhaven College’s Christina Jaques rounded out the All-Tournament team with 41 kills (2.93/g) and 34 digs (2.43/g).

The final tournament standings went as follows: Oklahoma Baptist 4-0, College of the Ozarks 3-1, John Brown 3-1, Texas Wesleyan 1-3, Belhaven 1-3, Mary Hardin-Baylor 0-4.
