FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University volleyball team (5-10, 0-1 RRAC) gave up a loss to Wiley College (7-2, 2-0 RRAC) in three sets (25-22, 25-21, 25-20) in the conference home opener on Friday night.
The Lady Rams gave up game one 25-22 as the two high powered offenses went at it.
In the second set, the Lady Rams and the Lady Wildcats both made runs of four straight points, each taking turns with the lead, but Wiley slipped by Wesleyan 25-21.
The Lady Rams played catch up the entire third set, tying the score six times before letting the set slip away, mostly due to errors. Errors were the difference in the match, as the Lady Rams gave up 20 attacking errors to the Lady Wildcats’ 11.
Head coach Christy Clawson had this to say about her team’s performance, “We just played bad, if the team does what we (the coaches) ask them to, we are going to win matches, but until we do that we will continue to lose. I have said this many times, we are a good team, but we just simply continue not to play like it. Kaitlyn Lowes played amazing; she performed at a high level tonight.
Lowes led all scorers with 15 points. She tallied 14 kills, added a service ace and had five digs in the match. Destiny Clemons had nine kills, and Angelica Arroyo finished with 20 assists.
The Lady Rams host a pair of matches tomorrow September 25, at 11:00 am and 2:00 pm. The Lady Rams take on Jarvis Christian in the morning match before finishing the conference triple header with Texas College at 2:00 pm. |
