FORT WORTH, TX: For the third time this season, Texas Wesleyan University’s Katy Houchin has been named Red River Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week. Houchin received the award for the period of September 22-28.
Houchin, a sophomore goalkeeper from Temple, TX, delivered seven saves on eight shots on goal in a 1-0 loss at John Brown University (AR). In the process, she lowered her goals against average to 1.42 for the season as the Lady Rams slipped to 6-3.
Houchin shared the award with UT-Brownsville’s Stephanie Reid, a junior goalkeeper from Mississauga, Ont., who stopped nine of 10 shots to extend the Scorphions' match with Abilene Christian University (TX) six minutes into overtime before ACU broke through for the game's only goal.
The Lady Rams will return to action on Thursday, when they travel to Muskogee, OK, to take on Bacone College in their conference opener. That game is scheduled for a 9:00 p.m. start. |
