MUSKOGEE, OK: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s soccer team (7-3, 1-0 RRAC) took a 3-0 win at Bacone College (0-6-1, 0-1) in the Red River Athletic Conference opener on Thursday.
Although the game was scoreless at the half, the Lady Rams controlled play throughout. Texas Wesleyan outshot Bacone 30-1 in the contest.
The Lady Rams finally found the back of the net in the 48th minute when Alejandra Barrera broke the scoreless draw with a goal on an assist from Heather Pagano. In the 75th minute, Jodi Blowers took a free kick and found Pagano for Texas Wesleyan’s second goal. In the 88th minute, Lateah Lucero scored on an assist from Alysia Kroger to account for the 3-0 final score.
Goalkeeper Katy Houchin needed just one save to record her fifth shutout of the season. Melinda Ortiz made six saves for Bacone.
“We played really good soccer and controlled the ball entirely for ninety minutes. We just didn’t score a ton of goals,” commented head coach Josh Gibbs. “We will fix that and be more dangerous when we go to Texas College.”
The Lady Rams will travel to Tyler, TX, to take on Texas College on Saturday. That RRAC contest is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. start. |
