LADY RAMS TROUNCE STEERS

TYLER, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s soccer team (8-3, 2-0 RRAC) dominated Texas College, putting up seven goals and taking a 7-1 win from the Lady Steers (1-6, 0-2 RRAC) on Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Rams came out scoring and didn’t stop, taking goal after goal from the Lady Steers defense.

The Lady Rams first goal came at the 4:56 mark when a pass from Jacqueline Wittman led Lateah Lucero to goal to give Welseyan a 1-0 lead. Samantha Greer put another point on the scoreboard at the 12:52 mark.

The Lady Steers’ only goal came 36:03 in the game on a penalty kick that found its way past Katy Houchin to bring Texas College within one going into the break.

The second half was all Texas Wesleyan as the Lady Rams turned it on and never let up. Jamie Romaguera scored two consecutive goals at 58:16 and 76:30. Vanessa Lopez followed suit scoring two goals of her own in less than a minute of play. She scored her first at the 70:26 mark with an assist from Brandi Berrier and the second 80:19 into the contest. Jessica Watton added Wesleyan’s sixth goal 83:42 into the game, with Cara Lumpkin serving up the assists.

The Lady Rams outshot the Lady Steers 23 to eight, as Katy Houchin made four saves for the Lady Rams and picked up her eighth win of the season.

The Lady Rams continue their conference campaign, taking on Our Lady of the Lake University at home. That game scheduled for Thursday, October 8, at 7:30 p.m. at Martin Field.
