COVINGTON, ARROYO NAMED RRAC P.O.W.

FORT WORTH, TX:  For the second time this season, Texas Wesleyan University’s Chelsy Covington has been named Red River Athletic Conference Volleyball Libero of the Week.  Covington won the award for the period of September 28 – October 4, while her teammate, Angelica Arroyo was named Co-Setter of the Week.

Covington, a sophomore libero from Hutto, TX, compiled 27 digs on the week for Texas Wesleyan, including 12 each in wins over St. Thomas University (TX) and Bacone College (OK).  She committed only four receiving errors in 95 attempts for a reception percentage of .953.  Covington also recorded a career high for kills in a match with 13 against St. Thomas.

Arroyo, a freshman setter from Hutto, TX, spurred the Lady Rams to a 2-1 week with 6.5 assists per game.  She had 33 assists in a victory over St. Thomas and 32 as Texas Wesleyan defeated Bacone en route to an .821 setting percentage.  The Lady Rams are 3-2 in conference play and 9-11 overall.

Arroyo shared her award with UT-Brownsville’s Dianarah Bracero.  Southwestern Assemblies of God University’s Brittani Toole was named RRAC Hitter and Player of the Week.

The Lady Rams begin a three-game road swing on Thursday, when they travel to San Antonio, TX, to take on Our Lady of the Lake University in RRAC action.  That match is scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. start.
