SAINTS NIP RAMS IN 110th MINUTE

FORT WORTH, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University men’s soccer team (8-4, 1-2 RRAC) suffered a 3-2 double-overtime loss against Our Lady of the Lake University (4-4, 1-1) as Eric Torkildsen scored the game-winner with just 25 ticks left on the clock.

The Saints put the Rams in an early hole as Ramon Rodriguez scored in the 24th and 26th minutes.  Just before the half, OLLU goalkeeper Marco Herrera fouled Theo Nabassi in the box to prevent a goal, but Rafael Franco converted the ensuing penalty kick to bring the score to 2-1 at the break.

In the 59th minute, Ricardo Aguilera found Nabassi who scored his seventh goal of the season to tie the game at two.  Both teams saw scoring opportunities down the stretch, but it was Torkildsen who found the net with the clock reading 109:35 turning what looked like a 2-2 tie into a 3-2 loss for Texas Wesleyan.

The two teams were even at 22 shots each, but OLLU put 11 shots on target while Texas Wesleyan managed just three.

Herrera made one save for the Saints.  Joakim Soderbaum (5-1) made eight saves in the loss.

Texas Wesleyan will host conference leading UT-Brownsville (8-0-1, 2-0) on Saturday.  That game is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. start at Martin Field.
