FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s soccer team (9-3, 3-0 RRAC) used a goal from senior captain Jaimie Romaguera with 21 seconds remaining in regulation to snare a 2-1 Red River Athletic Conference win over Our Lady of the Lake University (3-5-2, 0-1-1) at Martin Field on Thursday.
The Lady Rams had to play catch up after the Saints’ Abby DuLaney scored in the 41st minute. Texas Wesleyan trailed 1-0 at halftime, but Samantha Greer scored off a free kick from Kayla Doherty in the 71st minute to tie the game at one. As the clock wound down, goalkeeper Kat Kirsch came out and was unable to snare a ball played into the box. Romaguera was there to knock the ball home for her teamleading ninth goal of the year.
Texas Wesleyan out shot OLLU 18-7. Kirsch made seven saves in the loss. Katy Houchin stopped one of two shots on goal for Texas Wesleyan.
At 3-0 in conference play, the Rams sit atop the RRAC standings. They will host third place UT-Brownsville (4-3-2, 1-0-1) on Saturday. That game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start at Martin Field. |
