FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University men’s soccer team (8-5, 1-3 RRAC) suffered a 2-0 loss at the hands of 17th ranked UT-Brownsville (9-0-1, 3-0) at Martin Field on Saturday.
A remarkably tight game was decided just under 30 minutes in on a goal from UTB’s Aaron Guerrero. The Scorpions outshot the Rams 4-3 in the first half.
The margin remained a single goal until Steve Howard fed Evans Frimpong for a second goal in the 77th minute.
UT-Brownsville outshot Texas Wesleyan 12-8 in the game and 6-3 in shots on goal. The Scorpions also led 5-4 in corner kicks and 11-10 in fouls. Toby Rochau made four saves in goal for Texas Wesleyan, while his counterpart, Juan Gamboa, made three stops for UT-Brownsville.
The Rams will now prepare to travel to nearby Cedar Hill, TX, to take on Northwood University in Red River Athletic Conference. That game is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start on Thursday. |
