KNIGHTS TOP RAMS, 4-1
October 15, 2009

Box Score

CEDAR HILL, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University men’s soccer team (8-6, 1-4 RRAC) suffered a 4-1 loss at Northwood University (5-5-2, 2-1) in Red River Athletic Conference play on Thursday.

Playing on an extremely rough, wet surface, the Rams dug a 2-0 hole in the first half.  Northwood controlled the ball and outshot the Rams 13-4 in the period.  However quality shots were hard to come by as both teams slogged through the mud.  The Knights led just 4-1 in shots on goal.

Sam Valosek got the scoring started in the 12th minute on an assist from Ranger Parrish.  In the 37th minute, Stewart White collected a rebound off a save by Toby Rochau and scored to put Northwood up 2-0.

In the second half, Northwood’s Gabriel Elixondo headed in Trey Matthews’ free kick in the 54th minute to take a 3-0 advantage.  Five minutes later, Ricardo Aguilera had a touch shot to beat the Northwood keeper, but the ball glanced off the post and out.  The Rams got on the board in the 64th minute when Adis Druzanovic converted a free kick from just outside the box.  Elixondo scored an unassisted goal in the 78th minute to account for the 4-1 final score.

For the game, Northwood led 20-11 in shots and 8-3 in shots on goal.  The Knights were whistled for 22 fouls and four yellow cards, while the Rams were tagged for 14 fouls and three yellow cards.

Toby Rochau (3-5) made four saves in the loss.  Northwood’s David Etale needed just two saves in the win.

Texas Wesleyan will return to action on Saturday, when they host Southwestern Adventist University.  That game is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start at Martin Field.
