Box Score
CEDAR HILL, TX: In a rematch of last year’s Red River Athletic Conference championship game, the Texas Wesleyan University women’s soccer team (9-5, 3-2 RRAC) suffered a 3-0 loss at Northwood University (6-4, 3-0) on Thursday.
Last season, the Knights took the regular season match between the two schools, 2-0, before Texas Wesleyan took a 2-1 decision in the RRAC Tournament final.
Thursday’s game was played on an incredibly rough and soggy surface, slowing the attack of both teams. The game went to halftime in a scoreless draw as each team managed just one shot on goal.
After Texas Wesleyan’s Lateah Lucero hit the post in 61st minute, Northwood took a 1-0 lead in the 63rd minute with a goal from Helea Melin. Carolina Mata made it 2-0 in the 75th minute, and Natalie Carter capped the scoring in the 89th minute off an assist from Audrey-Anna Gatlin.
The Knights outshot the Rams 21-9 in the game. Katy Houchin made six saves for the Rams, while Ashley Ford needed just two saves to complete the shutout win for Northwood.
The Rams will return to action on Saturday, when they host Southwestern Adventist University. That game is scheduled for a 9:00 p.m. start at Martin Field. |
