RAMS DOMINATE KNIGHTS
October 17, 2009

Box Score

FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University men’s soccer team (9-6) cruised to a 16-0 victory over Southwestern Adventist University on Saturday night.

The Rams poured on the offense in a game that started nearly an hour after the scheduled start time. It didn’t take the Rams long to find the back of the net as Kevin Rauch punched one in from Angel Villanueva in the sixth minute that gave the Rams a 1-0 lead.

Rauch scored again in the tenth minute to give the Rams a quick 2-0 lead. Leo Cubrilo joined in the action scoring one from Adis Druzanovic that extended the lead to three. Rauch would complete the hat trick in the first half of play with a goal that gave the Rams a 4-0 lead thru 18 minutes of play. The Rams picked another goal when the Knights scored on their own goal in the 23rd minute. Druzanovic scored in the 29th minute lifting the Rams to a 6-0 lead, and Sean Maloney put one in to bring the score to 7-0 in the 32nd minute. Cubrilo scored on a service from Cameron Stapleton in the 35th minute, Maloney scored another goal with an assist from Druzanovic in the 37th minute, and Cubrilo picked his third goal of the game in the 41st minute, to give the Rams a 10-0 lead going into the half.

It was more of the same in the second half, as the Knights were simply no match for the Rams. Druzanovic picked up his second goal of the match in the 62nd minute.

Joakim Soderbaum then checked into the game, but not as a goalie, as a forward. It turns out the junior from Sweden can do it all, The All-American goalie scored not only once in the 65th minute, but again in the 68th.

Ekene Onuoha added a goal in between Soderbaum’s goals, and after Henry Ireheta, and Rafael Franco notched goals, the score finally settled at 16 nil.

Rauch picked up three goals and two assists in the victory, Druzanovic had two goals and three assists when all was said and done, and Soderbaum notched two goals in the match. Toby Rachau got three saves and picked up his fourth win of the season.

The Rams travel to play the University of the Southwest on Saturday, October 24 in a conference match at 1:00 p.m.
