HOBBS, NM: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s soccer team (11-5, 4-2 RRAC) posted its seventh shutout of the season, a 3-0 win over University of the Southwest (7-6, 2-4), on Saturday.
Goalkeeper Katy Houchin set a school record with her seventh shutout of the season, topping Brittany O’Brien’s six shutouts in 2008. The team is also just one shutout short of matching the school record of eight set last season. With eleven wins on the season, the Lady Rams have matched their total from last season and are just three shy of the program’s highest total (14 in 2005).
On Saturday, Jaimie Romaguerra broke a scoreless tie in the 53rd minute with her eleventh goal of the season off an assist from Sam Greer. In the 72nd minute Greer fed Lateah Lucero for an insurance goal. Just one minute later, Romaguera assisted on a goal from Cara Lumpkin to bring the score to 3-0.
“This team continues to impress me,” commented head coach Josh Gibbs. “We were the better team today and never felt threatened. We are looking forward to heading home next week.”
The Lady Rams will host Southwestern Assemblies of God University on Think Pink Day next Thursday. That game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start at Martin Field. |
