GRAND PRAIRIE, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University men’s golf team finished second in a playoff to Oklahoma Baptist University in the Tangle Ridge Shootout on Tuesday.

The Rams had two teams entered in the tournament hosted by Northwood University at Tangle Ridge Golf Course in Grand Prairie.  The Blue team shot the low round of the tournament at 286 on Tuesday, but finished 5th at 607 through 36 holes.  The Gold team shot 304, 289-593 to tie for the lead before falling on the first playoff hole with OBU.

Derek Brown, a sophomore out of Cleburne, TX, competing with the Gold squad shot a round of 75 on Monday, but matched the low individual round of the tournament at three-under par 69 on Tuesday.  That placed him in a tie for the lead at even par, 144, with OBU’s Clement Batut.  Batut then took the medalist position on the second playoff hole.

Dillon Watkins (T5), Armando Villarreal (T10), and Frazer Ogston (T10) also cracked the top-10 for Texas Wesleyan.

The Tournament was the final outing of the fall for the Rams, who are ranked fourth in the Golf World/Nike Coaches’ Poll.  They will now await the release of the first official NAIA top-25 poll due to be released on December 4.  They will open competition in the spring semester at the Pine Needles Intercollegiate, March 1-2, in Southern Pines, NC.
