FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University men’s soccer team (11-6, 3-4 RRAC) took a 4-1 win over Southwestern Assemblies of God University (5-9, 0-7) in Red River Athletic Conference action on Thursday.
With the win, Texas Wesleyan continues to control its own destiny as they approach next week’s conference tournament. With one game to play, the Rams could secure the fifth seed with one more win or take the sixth and final seed with a Bacone College loss.
The Rams were in control throughout Thursday’s contest. After a SAGU handball in the box, Theo Nabassi drove a penalty kick home to open the scoring in the 24th minute. Miguel Arreguin scored off an assist from Tyler Keith in the 40th minute to send the Rams to the break with a 2-0 lead.
Five minutes into the second half, Nabassi fed Adis Druzanovic for the team’s third goal. SAGU got on the board in the 56th minute with a goal from James Swearingin, but the Rams responded 1:37 later with a goal from Kevin Rauch.
Texas Wesleyan outshot SAGU 31-13 and led 13-0 in corner kicks. Toby Rochau (6-5) made six saves in the win, while his counterpart, Aleksandar Lesichkov, made seven saves against 11 shots on goal in the loss.
The Rams will play their final regular season game on Saturday, when they host Huston Tillotson University at 5:30 p.m. The team will host the RRAC Tournament, November 5-7, at Martin Field.
