FORT WORTH, TX: Blake Walker’s Gold team took a 2-0 win in game one of the Wesleyan World Series at Sycamore Park on Monday.
The Gold team rode the arms of Joey Evans and Drew Cavender to the victory. Evans picked up the win after tossing four shutout innings while striking out three and walking one. Cavender nailed down the save by striking out three and walking none in two innings of relief work.
Trent Sewell went 2-for-3 on the day and delivered the only RBI hit of the day. The Gold team scored their second run on a bases loaded hit batter.
Leighton Rush (1-for-3), Morgan Marr (1-for-2, 2B, 2 BB), and Jerry Fisher (1-for-3, 3B, R) also had hits for the Gold squad.
Kyle Frasard and Travis Spencer each went 2-for-4 for Butch Ballez’s Navy team.
Game two will be played at 1:30 p.m. at Sycamore Park on Tuesday. |
