GOLD WINS IN THE NINTH

FORT WORTH, TX:  The Gold squad took a commanding 3-0 series lead with a 5-4 win in game three of the Wesleyan World Series on Wednesday.  For the second straight day, the Gold team scored in the ninth to take a win away from the Navy squad.

Morgan Marr led off the ninth with a double and later scampered home from third on a ground ball to first base from Jason Holmes.  That broke a 4-4 tie in the top of the ninth.

Drew Cavender sealed the win with two innings of relief work.  He allowed no hits and no walks while striking out two.

Kody Thiebaud was the tough luck loser in game three.  Thiebaud allowed one run on just one hit in three innings of work.  He walked one and struckout four on the day.

Leighton Rush (1-for-3, RBI), Ryan Jacobi (1-for-3, 3B, RBI), and Justin Keller (1-for-4, 2 RBI) all contributed to the offense for the Gold team.

The Navy squad was paced by a 2-for-5 day with two RBI from Kyle Frasard.  Freshman catcher Mike Nava went 2-for-4.  Nick Schrock (1-for-2), and Mikey Valdez (1-for-2, RBI) got in on the action as well.

The series will now break until Monday.  Game four is scheduled for a 1:30 p.m. start at Sycamore Park on Monday, November 9.
