WAXAHACHIE, TX: The tenth ranked Texas Wesleyan University men’s basketball team (0-1) dropped fell 77-72 to Evangel University in their season opener Friday night.
Senior guard Terrell Henry was injured when he was fouled on a dunk early in the ballgame. The game was delayed and Henry was taken to the hospital for x-rays. Head coach Terry Waldrop was hopeful for Henry’s recovery. “Something is obviously wrong, but we are hoping for the best. Terrell is a good kid and an important part of this team.”
Junior forward Jeremy Mayfield finished with a double-double in the game with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Junior guard Brian Wanamaker led the Rams in scoring with 21 points. Senior forward Hector Mukweyi added 12 points.
Evangel outshot Texas Wesleyan 44%-42% and won the battle of the boards 37-34. Evangel guard Spud Harbour led all scorers with 30 points.
“Obviously we will have to play a lot better against a lot better competition if we are going to get where we want to get,” Waldrop commented.
The Rams will play LSU-Shreveport in Waxahachie, TX, on Saturday. That game is scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. start in Southwestern Assemblies of God University’s Full Life Center. |
