LADY RAMS DOWN HTU
November 4, 2009

 

FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s volleyball team (15-15, 9-5 RRAC) took a conference win against Huston-Tillotson University (6-30, 5-10 RRAC) on Wednesday night. The Lady Rams won the match in four sets by scores of 25-18, 25-18, 19-25, 25-16.

 

In the first game, Tillotson jumped out to a 7-3 advantage by way of some offensive mishaps by the Lady Rams. The Lady Rams tied the game with an Angelica Arroyo service ace at 11 a piece, and Arroyo rattled off two more service aces to give Wesleyan a 13-11 lead. The Lady Rams never gave up that lead and went on to win 25-18.

 

Wesleyan dominated game two, leading by as many as ten. Destiny Clemons led the Lady Rams in game two with five kills, while Brittney Person had four kills. The Lady Rams took game two by a score of 25-18.

 

Game three proved that Tillotson was not going to give in without a fight as they capitalized on key errors committed by the Lady Rams. Huston-Tillotson took game three 25-19. Kaitlyn Lowes led the Lady Rams in game three with five kills.

 

The Lady Rams dashed Tillotson’s hopes for a comeback with a 25-16 game four win. The Lady Rams shut down Tillotson’s offense, giving up only six kills. Clemons and Lowes led the Lady Rams in game four with four kills each.

 

Clemons led all players with 14 kills, Lowes picked up 10 kills, and Person had nine kills in the match. Arroyo led all players with 20 assists and added three service aces, while Evoni Darling picked up 18 assists and 6 digs in the win. Kristen Venhuizen had a team high 13 digs with three service aces as well.

 

The Lady Rams are back in action on Saturday, November 7, as they host a pair of conference matches. The Lady Rams play UT-Brownsville at 11:00 a.m. in their annual Parent's Day contest and take on Our Lady of the Lake at 2:00 p.m. in their Senior Day contest.
