VIOLINIST JING WANG TO PERFORM FOR THE STEPHEN BARR MEMORIAL CONCERT

Jing Wang, prize-winning violinist and graduate student at Rice University in Houston, will present a program of solo violin pieces for the 2009 Stephen Barr Memorial Concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, in Martin Hall on the Texas Wesleyan campus. Wang will perform two sonatas for violin and piano (Mozart's Sonata in B-flat Major and Brahms' Sonata No. 2 in A Major) as well as Maurice Ravel's Tzigane and Henri Wieniawski's Fantaisie Brillante on Themes from Gounod's "Faust". Wang will be accompanied by pianist and fellow Rice University graduate student Jeewon Lee.

 

Wang is the 2007 first prize winner of the 22nd Annual Irving M. Klein International String Competition in San Francisco. He has won first prize at the 2000 International Competition "Concertino Prague" in Prague, Czech Republic, and was nominated "Le Titre de Jeune Solist" of all French Radio in 2002. He won first prize at the 1997 Canadian Music Competitions and the Montreal symphony Orchestra Competition in 1998.

 

The music department at Texas Wesleyan University is especially proud to sponsor this annual event in memory of Stephen T. Barr, son of longtime benefactors and patrons of Wesleyan Music, Dr. Howard and Mrs. Patricia Barr.
