FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

GUITAR FORT WORTH AND THE MUSIC DEPARTMENT AT TEXAS WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY PRESENT

ALUMNUS AND GUITAR VIRTUOSO MARK APPLING

Guitar Fort Worth will open its sixth annual classical guitar series on the campus of Texas Wesleyan University at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, in Martin Hall. Mark Appling, guitar, is a 2007 alumnus of Texas Wesleyan and holds a Bachelor of Arts in music. His appearance is being sponsored jointly by Guitar Fort Worth and the University Music Department, under the banner of Texas Wesleyan's 4th Annual Alumni Invitational Recital.

Appling completed a master's degree from New England Conservatory this past spring as a student of world-renowned classical guitar master Eliot Fisk. He has been accepted into the doctoral program at the Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester (New York), where he has been awarded a teaching assistantship. Appling has performed extensively both as a soloist and chamber musician.  He has also performed for many of the leading guitarists of our time, including Pepe Romero, Eliot Fisk, Eduardo Fernandez, Alfonso Moreno, David Tanenbaum and Bruce Holzman.

His program for the evening includes an enticing selection of pieces by Manuel Ponce, J. S. Bach, Joaquín Rodrigo, William Walton and Agustín Barrios. While admission will be charged to the general public (visit www.guitarfortworth.org for ticket information), there is no cost to any Texas Wesleyan student, faculty or staff member with a valid ID card.

Martin Hall is located at 1309 Wesleyan St., Fort Worth.
