WESLEYAN CHORALE REHEARSALS BEGIN MONDAY, JAN. 12 Rehearsals for the next performance by the Wesleyan Chorale will begin at 5:45 p.m. Monday, Jan. 12, in Martin Hall. All members of the Texas Wesleyan community - alumni, faculty, staff and students - are invited to participate. No audition is required and no prior experience is necessary. Members should possess the ability to match pitch well, and some music reading experience is helpful. A commitment to rehearsal attendance and the desire to create great music are the only requirements. Rehearsals take place weekly on Monday evenings from 5:45 to 7 p.m. in Martin Hall. This semester, the Chorale will be performing Maurice Durufle's Requiem, a lyrical setting of the Requiem Mass with organ accompaniment. The Requiem debuted in Paris in 1947, and the piece is considered Durufle's finest work. His music reflects Gregorian melodic qualities, but also incorporates brilliant modal harmonies and as well as the use of polyphony. Click here to listen to some of his work. Accompanying the choir for this performance will be international award-winning organist and Texas Wesleyan faculty member Dong-ill Shin. The performance will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, at First United Methodist Church in Hurst. For more information, call 817-531-4992 or visit Texas Wesleyan Music.
