CELEBRATE THE WORLD OF DUO-PIANO Join the Music Department at Texas Wesleyan University for a week of collaborative piano festivities, featuring two duo-piano concerts and a youth duo-piano competition. Duo-piano music is specifically composed for a player at each of two pianos. In addition to all the successful qualities of solo piano music playing, duo-piano performance requires skills in listening, balance, interpretative choice and ensemble cooperation. All three events are free and open to the public, and will take place in Martin Hall, located at 1309 Wesleyan St., Fort Worth, TX 76105. Jessica Koebbe, adjunct professor of piano, and her piano partner, Lori Dunn, will kick off the week's activities with a concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 24. They will play selections by George Pinto, Reinhold Glière, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Astor Piazzolla, and George Gershwin. Bruce McDonald, assistant professor of religion, and John Fisher, professor of music, perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 26, for their sixth collaborative recital, an annual campus favorite. This year's offerings center around the theme “Music of the Dance,” and include Alexander Borodin’s Polovetsian Dances, Wallingford Riegger’s "Finale" from The New Dance, Camille Saint-Saens’ Scherzo, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Waltz of the Flowers, and Darius Milhaud’s Scaramouche.
The week will end with the inaugural Texas Wesleyan Youth Duo-Piano Competition, held in conjunction with the Fort Worth Piano Teachers FORUM. The competition, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, March 28, has 24 piano pairs scheduled to compete, and celebrates the gift of twin, ivory-keyed Baldwin SD-10 grand pianos by Wesleyan Music patrons Dr. Howard and Mrs. Patricia Barr. Come out and hear any or all of the musicians, as the audience is allowed to be present in the hall during the competition! For more information, call 817-531-4992 or visit Texas Wesleyan Music.
