FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

INTRODUCING THE SOLUTION FOCUSED INSTITUTE

The  Texas Wesleyan University Department of  Counseling introduces the Solution Focused Institute (SFI) for Education and Training at Texas Wesleyan, co-sponsored with the University of Texas at Arlington. The SFI was founded in January of this year by four therapists who wish to work with the community of solution focused therapists in the United States and abroad. The SFI's goal is to provide training to educators of children and adolescents, therapists, psychologists, psychiatrists and anyone who desires to know more about solution focused therapy. The SFI also offers solution focused therapy to individuals, families and couples at The Glick House, the institute's formal site at Texas Wesleyan.

An inaugural symposium and training session will be held Thursday, May 14, and Friday, May 15, on the Texas Wesleyan campus in the Louella Baker Martin Pavilion, 1112 Wesleyan St., Fort Worth.

The two-day training session will begin with a symposium led by Bill O'Hanlon, MS, on “The Geography of Possibilities.” Possibility Therapy uses the power of acknowledgment to meet people where they are stuck and the power of possibility to invite them into change. Not just a positive approach, this approach recognizes problems, the influence of the past, and cultural, political and gender influences while creating a respectful, hopeful environment for change. It also adds a spiritual dimension to therapy.

O'Hanlon is a psychotherapist, prolific author, and popular workshop presenter. He co-developed Solution-Oriented Therapy, a form of solution-focused brief therapy, has authored or co-authored more than 27 books (ranging from brief therapy for various clinical topics to The Lazy Man's Guide to Success and Write is a Verb), and has given more than 2,000 workshop presentations in the United States and abroad.

Friday's activities will include a number of breakout sessions. For more detailed information about the symposium, including price (sign up before May 10 to receive a discount!) and breakout session topics, click here, visit http://www.txwes.edu/mapc/index.htm, or call 817-690-2229.
