WESLEYAN CHORALE TO PERFORM DURUFLE'S REQUIEM WITH WORLD-RENOWNED ORGANIST Under the direction of Jerome Bierschenk, director of choral activities at Texas Wesleyan, the Wesleyan Chorale will give two performances of Maurice Durufle's Requiem, a lyrical setting of the Requiem Mass with organ accompaniment. Dong-il Shin, adjunct instructor at Texas Wesleyan and winner of the 2006 Gran Prix d'Interpretation de Chartres, the world's premier award for organ performance, will accompany the chorale. The Requiem debuted in Paris in 1947, and the piece is considered Durufle's finest work. His music reflects Gregorian melodic qualities, but also incorporates brilliant modal harmonies and as well as the use of polyphony.
Both performances are free and open to the public. Call 817-531-4992 with any questions or visit Texas Wesleyan Music. The 60-voice chorale includes Texas Wesleyan students, faculty and staff members, Wesleyan music alumni and other friends to the University community.
