Alumnus Stars in Israel Horovitz's Sins of the Mother
A former Texas Wesleyan student portrays an out-of-work fisherman in Sins of the Mother, currently in production with the Gloucester Stage Company in Gloucester, Mass. Alumnus David Nail, BFA '03, is Dubbah Morrison, one of four unemployed fishermen living in Gloucester, whose life becomes intertwined with the others in his closely knit community.
"The truth is that for all five characters in this engrossing drama by Israel Horovitz, the past is always present. It traps them, struggle as they might to forget it, in a cycle of guilt and retribution. The past can’t be swept away with a glib one-liner. It is always circling, waiting to move in for the kill." --Don Aucoin, The Boston Globe
"And as Dubbah Morrison, David Nail brings sweetness to a bittersweet role; he provides several of the play’s few moments of humor through well-timed bumbling antics." --Robert Israel, EDGEboston.com

"Ways to Work" Helps Neighborhood with Transportation
A program for students, faculty, staff, neighbors and friends may have the answer for someone you know. The program, Ways to Work, which is grant funded and provided by the Arlington Chamber of Commerce and CapitalOne, helps people find dependable transportation at an affordable price with a very low interest rate. A person does not have to live or work in Arlington or be a student to qualify.
Ways to Work offers a financial wellness program that can help qualified participants build their credit, learn how to manage personal finances, and learn how to repair their credit score while saving. The program offers low interest rate loans for purchasing a used vehicle that has been thoroughly repaired. The dealer that the chamber is working with purchases vehicles such as Toyotas and Hondas from the auction. Since these cars last through 200,000 miles, they are a more reliable form of transportation for the student. The car is completely repaired, so there are no worries about buying a used car that will not last or that will break down in a few months.
Over the past two years, students were able to get a better job, improve financial literacy, obtain a better credit rating, experience higher self-esteem, and experience a higher quality of life.
Net income increased by 41%, 75% of participants reported a higher income after receiving the loan, and 82% of borrowers who received public cash assistance sustained themselves without it after receiving their car loan, 65% cited reduced tardiness/missed days at school and work, and 50% link their ability to complete their education to their car ownership.
To learn more about the program, or see if you qualify, contact Sherri Mata at careerservices@txwes.edu or 817-531-6552 for a referral. You may also learn more about the Ways to Work program at www.waystowork.org or www.arlingtontx.com/waystowork.
