SAXOPHONIST LOU MARINI TO PERFORM AS PART OF THE HIGHLANDER/WESLEYAN JAZZ FESTIVAL The annual Highlander/Wesleyan Jazz Festival, a day-long festival of clinics, workshops and master classes for music students, will culminate this year with a performance by jazz saxophonist Lour Marini. Marini is a renowned performance artist, arranger, and composer fluent in jazz, rock, blues and classical music. He was a member of the Saturday Night Live band for seven years, and performed as "Blue Lou" in The Blues Brothers with Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi. The evening performance with Marini, jazz ensembles from Texas Wesleyan University and Tarrant County College South, and selected high school bands will be at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 9, in Martin Hall on the Texas Wesleyan campus. During the day on Saturday, high school music students from across Texas will participate in clinics, workshops and master classes with outstanding local jazz musicians. In addition to these instructional efforts, the program includes performance competitions for all participants. The competition will be held from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Tarrant County College South, and the final concert/awards ceremony will be held at 7:30 p.m. at Texas Wesleyan University.
