University Web Privacy Policy

PURPOSE

The purpose of this document is to inform site visitors about the personally identifiable information that may be collected when an individual visits a Texas Wesleyan University web site and how such information may be used by Texas Wesleyan.

SCOPE

This policy applies to all Texas Wesleyan-owned web sites and domains and visitors to those sites.

POLICY

Texas Wesleyan University is committed to respecting privacy and recognizes the need for appropriate protection and management of the personally identifiable information visitors to Texas Wesleyan web sites share.

Information Collected
Two types of information may be collected from web site visitors: information automatically collected and information voluntarily provided by the visitor.

Information Automatically Collected
Network Traffic and Web Server Logs
In the course of ensuring network security and consistent service for all users, Texas Wesleyan may use software programs to do such things as:

  • Analyze network traffic,
  • Identify unauthorized access,
  • Detect computer viruses and other software that might damage University computers or the network,
  • Monitor and maintain the performance of Texas Wesleyan network.

In the course of such monitoring, these programs may detect such information as e-mail headers, addresses from network packets and other information. Information from these activities is used solely for the purpose of maintaining the security and performance of Texas Wesleyan's networks and computer systems. Personally identifiable information from these activities is not released to external parties unless required by law.

Texas Wesleyan web servers collect and store information from web site visitors to monitor web site performance and to improve service. This includes, but is not limited to the following types of information:

  • Page visited,
  • Date and time of the visit,
  • Domain name or IP address of the referring site,
  • Domain name and IP address from which the access occurred,
  • Version of browser used and the capabilities of the browser.

Texas Wesleyan makes no attempt to identify individual visitors from this information. Any personally identifiable information is not released to external parties unless required by law.

Cookies
Cookies are small bits of data stored on a visitor’s hard drive on behalf of a web site and returned to the web site on request. This site may use cookies for two purposes: 1) to carry data about a visitor’s current session at the site from one web page to the next, and 2) to identify the visitor the next time s/he visits the site.

Information Voluntarily Provided
In the course of using this web site, visitors may choose to provide information to help Texas Wesleyan serve their needs. Such as:

  • Name, address, phone, fax, email address of purchasing party,
  • Name, address, phone, fax, email address of order recipient,
  • Credit card information (card type, number, expiration date and owner's name) of purchasing party.

Texas Wesleyan will not sell, exchange, or otherwise distribute a visitor’s personally identifiable information without his/her consent, except to the extent required by law.

Commitment to Data Security
To prevent unauthorized access to visitor’s personal data, maintain data accuracy, and ensure the correct use of information, Texas Wesleyan has put in place systems and procedures to safeguard and secure the information collected through the web site.

External Links
Texas Wesleyan sites provide links to other World Wide Web sites and resources. Texas Wesleyan does not control these sites and resources, does not endorse them, and is not responsible for their availability, content, or delivery of services. In particular, external sites are not bound by Texas Wesleyan's web privacy policy and may have unique policies or none at all.

Third-Party Services
Some sections of the web site may use third-party service providers. This includes analytic applications, such as Google Analytics, and application services, such as those provided by Microsoft Corporation, Google Inc., Yahoo! Inc., Noel-Levitz, and NACELink. Additionally, Texas Wesleyan hosts and maintains some portions of the web site using third-party service providers, such as Blackbaud, Ingen, and StarRez. By using those portions of the web site and the associated services, visitors consent to the collection and use of any data provided as defined by the privacy policies of each service provider.

Precautions for Children
Texas Wesleyan does not attempt to collect personal information from individuals 13 years of age or younger (children), and does not provide services to children. The Texas Wesleyan web site is not directed to children, and Texas Wesleyan does not knowingly collect personal information from children. If a child sends personal information to Texas Wesleyan, and this information can be identified as originating from a child, the information will be deleted. Texas Wesleyan cannot always determine which information originates with a visitor that is a child. Texas Wesleyan does not maintain databases about children.

POLICY CHANGES

Texas Wesleyan may occasionally make changes to this and other privacy policies to accommodate changes in legal and regulatory requirements or upgrades and modifications to technology, applications and service offerings. Visitors should periodically visit the site to review University privacy policies.
