Maintain integrity of general ledger via review of journal entries, preparation of account reconciliations, review of sub-ledgers and modules and review of posting journals. Conduct research and apply problem solving skills to assist business office personnel and departments with inquiries.

Job Description:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

Review prior day bank transactions, prepare journal entries for bank activity and update cash flow reports.

Prepare monthly reconciliations of bank accounts, balance sheet accounts and other general ledger accounts as requested.
Review and perform daily posting of advancement reporting (gift/grants) via import from advancement module to general ledger.

Prepare monthly sales tax reports.

Post monthly purchasing card transactions to general ledger.

Maintain all university grants and prepare financial reports for submission to grantor agencies.

Review and approve employee travel and expense reports according to university policy.

Approve and reconcile employee and athletic department advances.

Prepare payroll in absence of Payroll Specialist.

Prepare year-end audit documentation as needed.

Assist with annual tax return data gathering.

Perform other duties assigned by the Assistant Controller.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelors of Business Administration in Accounting required
Three to five years related experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Ability to analyze account activity and prepare appropriate correcting entries with minimal supervision.
Strong attention to detail and quality of work.
Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
Must be highly motivated and have initiative to work independently and within in a group setting to meet deadlines.
Proficiency with an integrated administrative system preferred.
Proficiency with current word processing, accounting and spreadsheet software programs required.
Ability to work cordially with a diverse group of employees and students.
Ability to support and follow University and departmental policies and procedures.
Ability to independently use standard office machines (copier, facsimile, etc.).
Ability to be discrete in handling confidential matters, while complying with privacy/security regulations.
Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
Ability to maintain a professional appearance and office atmosphere.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle complex and multiple tasks.
Demonstrate ability for data retrieval and report preparation.
Ability to accurately work with, analyze and interpret large amounts of data.
Expertise working with spreadsheets, databases and statistical software applications to organize, summarize, and analyze data from a variety of sources.


LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Excellent verbal and oral communication skills.  Excellent analytical skills.  Good interpersonal skills.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and other university employees.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations

REASONING ABILITY Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
