Job Description:

The Photography Editor of The Rambler and www.therambler.org is responsible for all photographic content of the newspaper and its online presence(s). It is the editor’s responsibility to ensure that all content producers understand assignments and how to create the best photography for print and online presentation. It is also the editor’s responsibility to work with the Digital Media Editor and the editor of each print edition of The Rambler to ensure that The Rambler is providing consistent and accurate coverage of Wesleyan and Wesleyan-related events. The editor must be familiar with The Rambler policies manual and statement of ethical behavior in student media. The Photography Editor has the traditional editorial freedoms and responsibilities of professional journalism.

Specific duties include:
• Coordinate efforts to improve the quality of The Rambler and www.therambler.org , including attending and planning training, in conjunction with the Faculty Liaison and faculty adviser
• Work with Faculty Liaison and faculty adviser to submit photo contest entries
• Edit all photos and provide timely feedback to content producers who take photographs (same day or next day turnaround)
• Assign and edit all photographs, including cropping, photo choices, quality control and identification information (caption writing/editing)
• Provide content producers with the necessary assistance (suggested sources, angles, etc.) to the packages assigned
• Work with Digital Media Editor and content producers to provide content to The Rambler’s website in appropriate multimedia packaged format based on story type
• Assist the Social Media Director in managing The Rambler’s photographic social media presence as outlined by The Rambler’s overall social media plan (Flickr specifically) , while adhering to all Rambler social media policies
• Choose a photo of the week (reader outreach contest) for www.therambler.org online only presentation
• Maintain log of photo ideas
• Supervise content producers who take photographs to assure effective and accurate coverage
• Meet deadlines for assignments
• Work with students from Mass Communication courses, in conjunction with faculty adviser and Faculty Liaison
• Attend regularly scheduled meetings for all staff
• Meet regularly with the faculty adviser and Faculty Liaison to keep them updated on progress and any potential problems or concerns with the department (i.e., legal, ethical, internal discipline, budgets, equipment needs, etc.)
• Serve on the editorial board for The Rambler
• Maintain a minimum (but announced) schedule of office hours to address all potential concerns of the staff and Texas Wesleyan community
• Keep up with e-mail, phone messages and campus mail
• Maintain Rambler equipment to ensure proper functioning, availability and cleanliness
• Other duties as assigned

Hours Needed:

Flexible schedule based on coverage needs.
