Weekend Library Clerk

Provide weekend library service. Assist patrons at circulation, with catalog searches, database help and general reference questions. Provide general maintenance of copy machines/printers. Oversee opening of library, Circulation Desk operations, coffee bar maintenance, Circulation and Periodicals weekend student workers and secure building nightly.

Job Description:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
• Maintain excellent customer service standard at Circulation Desk.
• Assist patrons with Circulation needs, catalog searches, database help and general reference questions.
• Make ID cards for faculty, staff, students and alumni.
• Supervise weekend circulation and periodicals student workers.
• Perform opening and closing procedures and secure building each night.
• Maintain first and third floor:  shelving, ‘quiet’, helping patrons, shifting, etc…
• Maintain Coffee Bar supplies and coffee. 
• Maintain paper and toner/ink cartridges in copiers and printers; check to be sure the machines are functioning properly. Report problems with machines to supervisor.
• Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required
Library experience preferred
Some college preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Type 40 WPM
Knowledge of library practices, procedures and techniques.
Ability to follow University and library policies and procedures. 
Knowledge of standard filing practices.   
Proficiency with an integrated administrative system and current software programs.
Ability to learn a variety of procedures.
Ability to file and use library equipment including the online catalog and automation system.
Ability to understand the role and the purpose of the library.
Ability to pay attention to accuracy even with many work interruptions.
Ability to be a self starter who is detail oriented.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently.
Ability to maintain confidentiality, while complying with FERPA regulations.
Ability to establish and maintain a good rapport with a diverse group of library users.
Ability to maintain a neat & professional appearance and office atmosphere

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other University employees.

SKILLS
Ability to perform multiple tasks
Pleasant and clearly understandable phone voice
Maintain appropriate professional decorum

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
