Adjunct Instructor of Developmental Mathematics

The Adjunct Instructor instructs MAT 0300 Beginning Algebra. This is a developmental math course to prepare students for MAT 0301 Intermediate Algebra.

Job Description:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Teaching responsibilities:  The class will be taught face to face.  The course requires three hours of instruction each week for the duration of the Spring Semester 2013. 
Administrative responsibilities:  The instructor will meet with the Developmental Programs Coordinator to ensure course content is delivered adequately on a timely basis. 

The instructor will maintain regular office hours and will provide contact information, including email address and telephone information, to local and distant education students.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Master’s Degree, with at least 18 hours of graduate level math courses.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Proficiency with an integrated administrative system and current software programs.
Ability to professionally represent and promote the profession and Wesleyan to the public.
Demonstrated ability and strong interest in providing quality education and quality service.
Familiarity with academic policies and procedures of higher education institutions.
Ability to work effectively with other University personnel.
Ability to comply with rules, standards, regulations and laws related to student records.
Ability to adhere to University and departmental policies and procedures.
Ability to handle confidential & sensitive matters while complying with FERPA regulations.
Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
Ability to be dedicated to the program's success and to individual students.
Ability to work well with diverse faculty, staff, students, and other constituents of the University.


LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret discipline-related periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures and regulations. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from students, groups of managers, University employees, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts as they relate to biological science such as proportions, percentages, area, volume, concentration and dilutions.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, geometry, and descriptive and inferential statistics.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  Evening and weekend hours as required by class schedule and office hours. 

Ability to transport self to campus.
Contracts for part-time/adjunct faculty members are issued on a semester-by-semester basis.
