Job Description:

•Be available at the desk during assigned hours. 
•Arrive promptly when scheduled to work and dress appropriately.
•Attend and participate in weekly staff meetings.
•Participate in one on one meeting with your supervisor.
•Participate in the weekday (7pm-7am), weekend (Friday 8pm – Sunday 7pm), and holiday on-duty rotation.
•Perform rounds and complete on-duty reports while on-duty.
•Submit a weekly report to your Residence Hall Director.
•Submit maintenance requests as needed.
•Conduct floor/building meetings to keep residents informed of policies and programs. 
•Assist in writing reports and special projects as necessary.
•Maintain contact and good relationships with hall custodial staff.
•Arrive prior to opening and stay through closing in order to assist with opening and closing the hall at the beginning and end of each semester.
•Support, abide by, and enforce University policies and regulations.
•Behave in a professional manner, whether on or off campus.
•Be available and not under the influence of any illegal substances for assigned on-duty nights and weekends.
•Any other Duties assigned.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT RESPONSIBILITIES

•Be available in the residence hall and project an attitude of genuine interest and a desire to listen to residents' concerns. 
•Be knowledgeable of referral options within the University (i.e., Housing office, Counseling Center, Career Center, Academic Departments), and communicate these to residents.
•Discuss all situations of a referral nature with Residence Hall Director.
•Respect the confidentiality of personal situations, which may arise.
•Recognize the limits of your training and experience as a counselor.
•Be flexible with time in order to be effective. This necessitates not having time commitments that take you away from the floor for excessive time periods (particularly in the evenings and on weekends).
•Implement monthly activities relative to the specific needs of your floor/building.
•Initiate and maintain weekly contact with residents of the floor/wing.  Organize a floor/wing activity at least once a month and assist with hall-wide activities during the semester.
•Encourage residents to contribute ideas and follow through with the organization of activities.
•Attend scheduled floor and hall activities in so far as schedules will permit. These activities would include intramural sports, social events, educational activities, etc.
•Contact resource people to aid in development of special interest activities; i.e., Counseling Center, Campus Security, and other faculty/staff on campus.
•Support and participate in a minimum of one campus wide program per semester (ex. Halloween Festival, Homecoming, Ram Jam, and Easter Extravaganza).
•Assist with Student Life events such as RA selection and graduation.

Qualifications:

•An RA may carry an academic course load of a maximum 16 hours during each semester of employment.  No exception will be granted during the first semester of employment.  Any exception for subsequent semesters must be approved in writing by the supervisor (Residence Hall Director) and the Assistant Director or Director of Housing and Residence Life prior to registration.
•An RA must maintain a minimum semester grade point average of 2.3 during the period of employment.
•An RA may not engage in additional part time work, student teach, or hold an assistantship while serving as an RA without prior approval from their supervisor (Residence Hall Director) and the Assistant Director or Director of Housing and Residence Life.
•Attend mandatory fall and spring training as well as training sessions throughout the semester (i.e. fire/sprinkler training).
•Arrive before school begins to assist with building preparation for opening and remain after the semester end to assist with closedown.  Duties associated with this may include cleaning, room inventory, and the moving of furniture.
•Agree to abide by the policies and procedures of the Department of Housing and Residence Life as written in the Housing Contract, Student Handbook, and any other University publications.

Availability:

Sun. - Sat. : 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. (Maximum 20 hours per week)
