The Digital Media Editor of The Rambler and www.therambler.org coordinates all planned content on www.therambler.org, updating the website on a daily basis, posting new content and editing stories, photos, graphics, headlines and associated material to conform to an online format while also maintaining The Rambler’s social media presence.

Job Description:
Digital Media Editor
The Digital Media Editor of The Rambler and www.therambler.org coordinates all planned content on www.therambler.org, updating the website on a daily basis, posting new content and editing stories, photos, graphics, headlines and associated material to conform to an online format while also maintaining The Rambler’s social media presence. It is the editor’s responsibility to ensure that all content providers understand assignments for the website. It is also the editor’s responsibility to work with content providers to create content in the most appropriate format to fit the story, including providing consistent and accurate coverage of Wesleyan and Wesleyan-related events. The editor is also responsible for working with the Director/Producer of Rambler TV to ensure that content from Rambler TV is also available on www.therambler.org. The Digital Media Editor also creates and posts advertising content to www.therambler.org. The editor must be familiar with The Rambler policies manual and statement of ethical behavior in student media. The Digital Media Editor has the traditional editorial freedoms and responsibilities of professional journalism.
Specific duties include:
• Coordinate the timing and the technical aspects of multimedia packages for online presentation
• Coordinate the timing and the technical aspects of database integration on www.therambler.org
• Work with all content producers for development and management of online projects, including posting to social media outlets
• Work with Multimedia Center, when necessary, to arrange for use of equipment and rooms as needed
• Develop and manage policies and procedures for online presentation, including use of training
• Create unique online content and features (possible inclusion of re-introduction of Thumbs Up and Thumbs Down)
• Monitor the functionality of the site and correcting malfunctions as they occur on a daily basis
• Create a weekly report of web analytics for Faculty Advisor and Faculty Liaison
• Update www.therambler.org archives
• Update and coordinate Issuu.com presence
• Plan, assign and implement regular updates to the online content, in conjunction with the The Rambler and Rambler TV student leaders, Faculty Advisor and Faculty Liaison
• Develop two-way communication opportunities with print and online audiences (feedback, forums, polls and citizen journalism)
• Devise ways to enhance Web content with links, interactive features, slideshows, online exclusives and other special elements, including use of social media and apps
• Adhere to all Rambler social media policies
• Ensure that important breaking news stories is updated within one hour of content creation
• Adhere to all copyright law and correct mistakes on the site
• Work with students from Mass Communication courses, in conjunction with faculty adviser and faculty Liaison
• Attend regularly scheduled meetings for all staff
• Meet regularly with the Faculty Advisor and Faculty Liaison to keep them updated on progress and any potential problems or concerns with the web edition (i.e., legal, ethical, internal discipline, budgets, equipment needs, etc.)
• Serve on the editorial board for The Rambler
• Maintain a minimum (but announced) schedule of office hours to address all potential concerns of the staff and Texas Wesleyan community
• Keep up with e-mail, phone messages and campus mail and return messages same day
• Maintain Rambler equipment to ensure proper functioning, availability and cleanliness
• Other duties as assigned
