Job Description:
The Resident Assistant (RA) is an important member of the housing staff. He or she is an undergraduate or graduate student who serves a group of 30 to 100 students living in a residence hall. As an employee and a student, the RA is a unique position. The RA works a unifying force for the floor or unit while promoting a sense of community for the residence hall and University.
As an employee of Texas Wesleyan University, RAs are under the direct supervision of the Residence Hall Director. Working together, they support and carry out the objectives, policies, procedures and regulations of Texas Wesleyan University, the Department of Student Life and the Office of Residence Life.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
Earned college credit hours and/or experience working in an educational setting preferred.
Possess a motivating interest in working with students in the residence halls.
Have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 at the time of initial hiring and maintain a semester minimum GPA of 2.3 for duration of employment.
Minimum of a sophomore standing
Have lived in a Texas Wesleyan University residence hall for at least one (1) semester. (Related job experience can be substituted for this requirement).
Hours Needed/Suggested Schedule: RA's will be on duty one-two nights a week plus serve a rotating weekend duty schedule. RA's will work their hall desk for 10-15 hours a week. In addition, the RA needs to be present and available in their community and are required to assist with special events such as graduation, spring carnival, homecoming, opening, closing, training and other events as assigned.
