Job Description:

Writing Tutor

  • Provide academic tutoring services by maintaining a weekly schedule of available hours for appointments.
  • Attend tutor training workshops as required. Keep accurate records of tutoring appointments by filing tutoring reports.
  • Maintain contact with professors in your subject of expertise in order to obtain pertinent materials for the ASC.
  • Assist undergraduate students with writing assignments such as, topic selection, formatting, citations, grammar and punctuation. Tutoring appointments are intended to assists students in becoming better writers.
  • Assist with additional duties as needed such as, covering the front desk, scheduling tutoring appointments, answering phones, organizing materials and maintaining information in the ASC. 

Accounting Tutor
  • Provide academic tutoring services by maintaining a weekly schedule of available hours for appointments.
  • Attend tutor training workshops as required. Keep accurate records of tutoring appointments by filing tutoring reports.
  • Maintain contact with professors in your subject of expertise in order to obtain pertinent materials for the ASC.
  • Assist undergraduate students with accounting assignments including, but not limited to: beginning and intermediate accounting principles, managerial accounting, financial accounting and accounting theory as well as upper-level accounting topics. Tutoring appointments are intended to be instructional and to assist students in becoming proficient in accounting.
  • Tutors are to engage students in conversations that help draw and express ideas.
  • Assist with additional duties as needed such as, covering the front desk, scheduling tutoring appointments, answering phones, organizing materials and maintaining information in the ASC. 


Mathematics Tutor

  • Provide academic tutoring services by maintaining a weekly schedule of available hours for appointments.
  • Attend tutor training workshops as required. Keep accurate records of tutoring appointments by filing tutoring reports.
  • Maintain contact with professors in your subject of expertise in order to obtain pertinent materials for the ASC.
  • Assist undergraduate students with math assignments including, but not limited to, beginning and intermediate algebra, college algebra, pre-calculus and calculus. Tutoring sessions are intended to be instructional to assist students in becoming proficient in mathematics.
  • Assist with additional duties as needed such as, covering the front desk, scheduling tutoring appointments, answering phones, organizing materials and maintaining information in the ASC. 

Qualifications (required skills & abilities)

Writing Tutor

High school diploma/GED required. Successfully completed courses in subject area tutoring. Successfully demonstrate skills in subject by scoring the minimum required score on grammar and proofing test. Minimum GPA of 3.0 (at discretion of Tutor Coordinator) 

Accounting Tutor

High school diploma/GED required Skilled in mathematics Successfully completed courses in subject area tutoring¬Ě. Minimum completion of ACC 2303-01, preferably ACC 2303-02 

Mathematics Tutor

High school diploma/GED required Minimum completion of MAT 1302 and MAT 1324 Successfully completed courses in subject area tutoring. Successfully complete assessment skills test conducted by Tutor Coordinator. Minimum GPA of 3.0 ( upon discretion of the Tutor Coordinator ).

Hours Needed:

Maximum 15 hours per week.
Maximum 29 hours per week in summer semester.
