Students Benefit from Professors’ Practical Experience

Preparing for a career in counseling means you want an interactive experience – a personal approach to helping people. So why not learn from professors who practice what they teach?

"Our faculty is teaching students to be practitioners, and we’re not just doing it from the books,” Edita Ruzgyte, associate professor of graduate counseling, said. “Each of us has our own practice, so each of the faculty members in the department spends half of their week seeing clients, working with clients and applying these ideas. When they come to class, they are able to share their real experience."

Graduate counseling students also have the opportunity to sharpen their counseling skills at the Glick House Community Counseling Center. Professors provide guidance and feedback as students improve their counseling skills and prepare for their careers.
