Texas Wesleyan event to auction golf outing with Lee Trevino
The 16th annual O.D. Bounds Golf Classic will feature the perennial favorite auction item – a golf outing for four with legend Lee Trevino, winner of six major championships and member of the World Golf Hall of Fame.
The event tees off Monday, Sept. 23, at Diamond Oaks Country Club, and proceeds benefit the O.D. Bounds Endowment for Golf at Texas Wesleyan University. The fund supplements the men’s golf program with extra financial support for scholarships, travel opportunities and extra golf equipment.
The tournament is named for Bounds, who was the head golf coach at Texas Wesleyan for more than 40 years.
Two years ago, the Trevino package was purchased – and then donated to four high school students for the round of a lifetime, plus personal golf tips. Proceeds from this year’s auction will be split between the men’s and women’s golf programs.
Lee Trevino-Wendell Conditt Endowed Golf Fund
The men’s golf program recently renamed the Lee Trevino Endowed Golf Fund to the Lee Trevino-Wendell Conditt Endowed Golf Fund to reflect Conditt’s years of service. He has supported both the endowment and the O.D. Bounds Golf Classic for many years and has been integral to the program’s success.
Conditt, along with a committee that included O.D. Bounds, Doug Higgins and Guinn Phillips, established the fund in 1984 to support student-athletes. As of May, the fund represents a corpus of $320,000.
The men's golf is one of the most storied programs in the NAIA.
