Texas Wesleyan University Appoints Vice President for Marketing and Communications

FORT WORTH, Texas – Frederick G. Slabach, President of Texas Wesleyan University, announced today that John Veilleux has been appointed Vice President for Marketing and Communications. Veilleux currently serves as Associate Vice President for Communications and Community Relations at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP).

Veilleux will begin his new position on August 22. He is not unfamiliar with the University, having served at Texas Wesleyan School of Law as Director of Marketing and Communications from 2000 to 2008. In 2005, he was promoted to Assistant Dean and Director for Marketing and Communications and joined the law school’s leadership team.

This won’t be the first time Veilleux has worked for Slabach, who served as the law school’s Dean from 2003 to 2006. During Slabach’s tenure as Dean, the two collaborated with the law school admissions staff and faculty admissions committee to develop an integrated marketing plan designed to increase the applicant pool as well as the quality of the incoming class.

As a result of the design and implementation of that plan, applications to the law school increased by 23 percent (from 1,648 in 2003 to 2027 in 2006) at a time when the national applicant pool for law schools declined by almost 10 percent. The median LSAT for the school also rose significantly from 152 to 154.

Veilleux left Texas Wesleyan School of Law in March 2008 to become Associate Vice President for Communications and Community Relations at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP). During his tenure there, Veilleux developed an integrated marketing plan to increase the school’s visibility and brand in western Pennsylvania.

The result of that ongoing plan saw applications increase from just under 10,000 to more than 13,000 in fall 2011, with a corresponding increase in enrollment of 7.9 percent. In addition, freshman admissions closed early each of the last two years, while entering SAT scores have risen consistently. These successes have come during a time when the high school population in western Pennsylvania has steadily decreased.

Veilleux holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Texas and earned his MBA at Texas Wesleyan. He is married to Apryle and has three children: Jackson Kent (4), Payton Graham (2), and Jordan Reese (6 weeks).
