Two New Coaches Announced for 2013-2014 Season

Kimberly Weaver Named Head Volleyball Coach

Kimberly Weaver has been named as the new head volleyball coach for the upcoming 2013 season. She becomes the sixth head coach in the history of the volleyball program at Texas Wesleyan.

"We are very excited to have Coach Weaver join our staff," Steve Trachier, athletic director, said. "Her previous experiences as a college head volleyball coach will provide us with the foundation to build upon an already successful program. We are very lucky to have her direct our program."

Weaver comes to Texas Wesleyan from Liberty Christian School after serving as head coach of the volleyball program for two years. Prior to her time at Liberty Christian, Weaver collected an overall record of 113-48 as the head volleyball coach at Midland College from 2007-2010. During her tenure at Midland College, Weaver oversaw a 100 percent graduation rate and led the volleyball program to a tenth place finish at the NJCAA National Tournament in 2010. In the same year, Weaver was awarded the WJCAC Volleyball Coach of the Year and the NJCAA District F Coach of the Year Awards.

"It is both an honor and a joy to join such a distinguished staff at Texas Wesleyan," said Weaver. "I am extremely grateful to Steve Trachier and Kevin Millikan for granting me the opportunity to lead such a strongly established volleyball program. My husband and I are very excited about being a part of Ram Nation!"

Ricky Dotson Named Assistant Men’s Golf Coach

Ricky Dotson is going to be pulling double duty this sports year. The assistant men’s basketball coach has also been named as the assistant men’s golf coach.

Dotson previously coached golf at Lon Morris College for three years before coming to Texas Wesleyan. He led Lon Morris to the NJCAA National Tournament all three seasons. His team held a number one ranking for most of the 2011 season and finished fourth in the nation the same year.

This upcoming season, Dotson will begin to juggle the demands of coaching two different sports, a task Dotson has been accustomed to for most of his life.

"Interestingly enough, I've balanced golf and basketball most of my life, dating back to high school," said Dotson. "Most people probably don't think of the two sports having a lot in common, but I really think they do. Both games require feel and touch along with a mental toughness. I've found each sport actually helps me with the other."

The love of both sports is what will make the balancing act of coaching each one an easy transition for Dotson.

"I think if you enjoy what you do, then balancing all that is on your plate is not a tough thing to do," said Dotson. "It only becomes a grind when you don't enjoy it. In addition, Coach Shingleton, Coach Cornett, and Mr. Trachier have been great in helping me adjust to all of it. They are extremely accommodating and if it wasn't for their flexibility and support, it would be a strenuous task."
