Baseball Legend Nolan Ryan Selected as Fort Worth’s Business Executive of the Year
Nolan Ryan, chief
executive officer and president of the Texas Rangers baseball team, will be
honored as Business Executive of the Year during the 43rd Annual
Business Hall of Fame.
In addition to being
baseball’s all-time strikeout leader and a National Baseball Hall of Fame
player, Ryan is also part of the team’s ownership group, Rangers Baseball
Express, which purchased the franchise in 2010. He is an inaugural member of
the Texas Rangers Baseball Hall of Fame, which began in 2003, and is the only
player to have his uniform number retired by the Rangers. Ryan is the only player
to have his number retired by three teams - #34 for the Rangers, #30 for the
Angels, and #34 for the Astros.
Ryan’s legendary
pitching career included 7 no-hitters, more than 300 career wins, and 5000
strikeouts.
Texas Wesleyan
University, the Fort Worth Business Press, and the Fort Worth Chamber of
Commerce partner each year on the event, which benefits Texas Wesleyan’s Thomas
H. Law scholarship program to support business students.
This year’s
scholarship recipient is Jessica Carpenter, a junior at Texas Wesleyan
University. She is on the Dean’s List and is currently pursuing her Bachelor’s
degree in General Business Administration.
Carpenter is
currently employed with Bank of America, where she can use the skills she is
learning in a professional setting. She is active in Junior Achievement, Meals
on Wheels, and Meeting the Troops.
The purpose of the
Business Hall of Fame is to promote business as a challenging profession, to
inform young people about the American system of free enterprise and how it
functions, to focus community-wide interest on the business profession as the
vibrant lifeblood of our dynamic and expanding area, and to provide
scholarships that will enable a greater number of worthy college students to
prepare for business careers.
